Tips for processing lots of images fast
How to make your big batches run faster: browser choice, image sizes, batch sizes, and when to upgrade.
ReadyPixl runs right in your browser. No uploads, no waiting in line on our servers. That's great β but it also means your computer and your browser do the work. A few simple choices make big batches much faster.
Which browser works best
- Chrome β fastest. This is what we test on.
- Edge β basically Chrome under the hood. About the same speed.
- Firefox β works fine, a little slower on big batches.
- Safari β works for smaller batches. Has stricter memory limits, so batches over 500 images can struggle.
- Phone browsers β OK for small batches and checking results. Not recommended for real work.
For anything over ~200 images in one batch, use Chrome or Edge.
Don't use images bigger than you need
Bigger images aren't always better β they just take longer.
- Under 4,000 pixels on the long side β fastest. Good for most jobs.
- 4,000 to 8,000 pixels β fine, a bit slower.
- Over 8,000 pixels β slow, and usually not needed. Most print-on-demand sites top out around 7,632 Γ 6,480.
- Over 10,000 Γ 10,000 pixels β ReadyPixl won't load these, to keep your browser from crashing.
If your original images are huge β high-resolution AI generations, scanned designs, oversized stock images β shrink them down to 4,000 to 6,000 pixels first. You won't see any difference in quality and the pipeline will run much faster.
How many images to run at once
- 1 to 50 images β finishes in under a minute on most computers. No special tricks.
- 50 to 500 images β the sweet spot. Start the pipeline, walk away, come back to a finished zip.
- 500 to 2,000 images β works, but watch your browser. Close other tabs. If your browser has been open for days, close and reopen it first.
- Over 2,000 images β split into smaller batches. Two runs of 1,000 is easier than one run of 2,000.
Some tools are slower than others
The heavier tools:
- Color Removal β looks at every pixel at full quality. Great result, but the slowest of the cleanup tools.
- Image Adjustment with lots of sliders turned on β each active slider adds more work.
- Filters and Distress Effects with strong settings.
- Resize making images bigger.
The quick ones:
- Trim β scans the edges once, very fast.
- Reposition β just moves the image around, very fast.
- Rotate / Flip β very fast.
- Watermark (Text or Image) β adds one layer, very fast.
Tip: if your pipeline has both a Resize (making images smaller) and slow tools, put Resize first. The slow tools will then work on the smaller images, which is faster.
Don't click away during a big batch
- Keep the ReadyPixl tab in front. Browsers slow down tabs running in the background to save power. A pipeline running behind another tab can crawl or stop.
- Don't refresh or close the tab while it's running. Processing happens on your computer; closing the tab kills the job.
- **Closing other tabs is fine** and usually helps free up memory.
Save your pipeline as a preset
If you've built a pipeline that works for something you do a lot, click Save Current Preset. You only set it up once. Every future run is one click to load the preset, drop in new images, and click Download All.
When to upgrade
The free browser version is the main product. You might want to upgrade if:
- Chrome extension (paid) β best if you spend lots of time on sites like Midjourney, ChatGPT, Leonardo, or stock image sites. The extension puts a ReadyPixl button right on the images on those sites, so you can skip the "download one website, upload to another" dance. It also removes the ads in the web version.
- Desktop app (paid) β same ReadyPixl, packaged as an app for Mac, Windows, or Linux. The big perk is unlimited AI Upscale (no per-image credit cost). Also runs without internet and never shows ads.
The free web version keeps getting better whether you upgrade or not.
