Getting Started

Using the ReadyPixl desktop app

How to install the ReadyPixl desktop app, start the free trial, use the local AI upscaler, and set up right-click actions.

ReadyPixl Desktop is the paid app version of ReadyPixl for Windows and macOS.

Use it when you want ReadyPixl outside your browser, local AI upscaling, right-click actions, and automation tools for bigger batches.

What you get

The desktop app includes the same editor idea as the web version:

  • Drop in one picture or a whole folder.
  • Pick tools from the tool row.
  • Build a pipeline — a list of edits you run on every picture.
  • Save presets so you can reuse the same setup later.
  • Download one image or the whole batch.

It also adds desktop-only tools:

  • Overwrite original file — save edits straight onto the files where they are, instead of downloading new copies and deleting the old ones.
  • Upscaler (free) — local AI upscaling; its Extra High tier reaches 8x (the web version's free Upscaler stops at 4x).
  • Works offline for 7 days after the last online license check.
  • Right-click actions in Windows Explorer or macOS Finder.
  • CLI / Automation settings — run presets from scripts, terminal tools, or AI agents like Claude (see below).
  • Local app updates through the official ReadyPixl release channel.

Price and trial

You can try ReadyPixl Desktop free for 7 days. No credit card is required for the trial.

After the trial, the desktop app is a one-time purchase:

PriceWhat it means
$89Regular one-time price
$49Launch price while the launch offer is active

You buy it once and keep using the app. The purchase includes 1 year of free updates; after that your installed version keeps working. There are no refunds after purchase, so use the trial to test everything.

Install it

  1. Go to readypixl.com/download.
  2. Pick the download for your computer.
  • Windows: choose the Windows installer.
  • Mac with Apple Silicon: choose macOS Apple Silicon.
  • Older Intel Mac: choose macOS Intel.
  1. Install the app.
  2. Open ReadyPixl Desktop.
  3. Sign in with your ReadyPixl account.

Signing in starts your 7-day desktop trial if you have not used it before.

First use

  1. Open ReadyPixl Desktop.
  2. Drop in a picture or folder.
  3. Add a tool like Reposition, Color Removal V2, or Upscaler (free).
  4. Adjust the settings.
  5. Click Download All when the preview looks right.

Sign in with your ReadyPixl account and every preset you saved on the web or in the Chrome extension is already here — and new ones you save in the desktop app show up there too. Right-click actions and the CLI use the same presets. See Presets.

Overwrite original files

Turn on Overwrite original file in the editor and ReadyPixl saves the edited image over the original, in the same place with the same name. No more downloading new files, deleting old ones and moving things around.

Use the free local upscaler

The desktop app's Upscaler (free) runs on your computer with no credits.

Use it when a picture is too small and you need a larger version for print, listings, or mockups.

  1. Add Upscaler (free) to your pipeline.
  2. Pick a quality tier — start with Standard, and only move to High or Extra High once you know your computer handles it (higher tiers can crash a slow machine).
  3. Pick a scale:
  • 2x for a normal size bump.
  • 4x for small AI images or low-resolution art.
  • 8x (Extra High) only when you really need a large jump.
  1. Put Reposition after it if you need a specific canvas size.
  2. Download the result.

The first time you use it, ReadyPixl may download the upscaler files it needs. Let that finish before closing the app.

Set up right-click actions

Right-click actions let you process images without opening the full editor first.

On Windows, they appear in Windows Explorer.

On Mac, they appear in Finder under the Services menu.

To turn them on:

  1. Open ReadyPixl Desktop.
  2. Go to Automation.
  3. Turn on the Explorer or Finder integration.
  4. Save a few presets in the editor.
  5. Assign those presets to Preset A, Preset B, Preset C, or Preset D.
  6. Choose how outputs should be saved:
  • Suffix beside original keeps the original and adds a new file.
  • Overwrite original replaces the original.
  • Create subfolder puts outputs in a new folder.

Then right-click an image or folder and choose a ReadyPixl action.

Common actions:

  • Open in ReadyPixl — opens the selected images in the editor.
  • Process with Preset A-D — runs the preset you assigned.
  • Upscale Images — runs the desktop upscaler.
  • Compress Images — makes files smaller.

Use ReadyPixl with AI agents (CLI and skill file)

The desktop app includes a CLI that AI agents (Claude, Codex and others) can use to run ReadyPixl on folders of images.

  1. Open Automation settings → CLI / Automation.
  2. Click Export SKILL.md and save the skill file where your agent keeps its skills.
  3. Build and save a preset for the job (for example "clean + square").
  4. Tell your agent: "Use the ReadyPixl skill with the clean + square preset on this folder."

Use presets, not individual tool settings. An agent can set every tool by itself, but a less capable model may miss a setting. With a preset, the settings are already right and the agent only has one thing to run. If your agent tries to do extra checks you don't need, tell it to update the skill so it just runs the preset. Once it's set up, you never have to open the app for that job.

If right-click actions do not show up

Try this:

  1. Close and reopen ReadyPixl Desktop.
  2. Go back to Automation and turn the integration off, then on again.
  3. On Mac, open System Settings → Login Items & Extensions → Finder and make sure the ReadyPixl actions are enabled.
